The Mercedes-Benz SL is a grand tourer manufactured by Mercedes since 1954. The designation SL derives from the German Sport Leicht, or Sport Lightweight — and was first applied to the 300SL ‘Gullwing’ named also after its gullwing or upward-opening doors. The term SL-Class refers to the marketing variations of the vehicle, including the numerous engine configurations spanning five design generations. In December 2011 Mercedes-Benz announced the all new SL-Class and was formally launched at the North American International Auto Show in January 2012. The new SL (R231) has been produced for the first time almost entirely from aluminium. The new aluminium bodyshell weighs around 110 kilograms less than it would using the steel technology from the predecessor. Although the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class has more assistance systems on-board than its predecessor and therefore does actually sacrifice some of the weight saved through the aluminium bodyshell, the scales show some better figures: the SL 500 (1.785 kg) weighs around 125 kilograms less and the SL 350 (1.685 kg) is 140 kilograms lighter than its predecessor. New features include the unique FrontBass system (it intelligently uses the free spaces in the aluminium structures in front of the footwell as resonance spaces for the bass loudspeakers) and adaptive windscreen wipe/wash system MAGIC VISION CONTROL, which supplies water from the wiper blade as required and depending on the direction of wipe. A short animation with the cartoonish DeLorean model I created a few months ago. Its also a small homage to one of my favourite SciFi cars and movies ever. — It started as a simple turntable of the model but “the way I see it, if your gonna render a time machine turntable, why not do it with some style?” — Modeled and animated in Maya, texturing in Photoshop, rendered in mental ray, composited and post in After Effects. This is a project i have been working on for a long time in between other projects around the shop. These “towering towers” have finally gotten to a point where i can test listen to them, actually they have been like this for a few weeks. Before i finished up the “body work” on them and sent them out for paint, I had a plan to do a “distance test” to show how far these things can be heard…and from deep inside my shop. We actually filmed how far away it can be heard and it was extremely far, way past what you will see in this video. The only problem is, i lost those video clips in a hard drive crash and to make things worse, i got in that car accident which delayed my game another 2 weeks. Well i am almost ready to pull all the speakers out and finally finish these things but i wanted to at least get somewhat of a distance test in before i pull them apart for the last time. Like i said, i didnt go as far out in this video, as the video in the lost clips, but its far enough to give you an idea. Its the first nice day in a month and its too muddy to go much further. Once finished, and a little more dry outside, i will remake a video like this and we will REALLY see how far they can be heard….stay tuned! the system consists of: 2 crown xti 4000′s (bass) and 2 crown 2000w amps….. The Towers EACH will have (8) 7″ Ascendant Audio Carbon mids, (4) Morel Tweeters and 1 Ascendant Audio SMD 18″ woofer. There is 2 18″ Passive radiators in each tower to reinforce the LOW LOWS …
